Matt Barnett is the Director of Basketball at the Chauncey Billups Basketball Academy at the Institute. Matt has a passion for basketball, especially in Colorado. He has been one of the top player development coaches in the state for the past 15 years. Matt has a reputation for “making” basketball players through his focus on the fundamentals, and attention to detail, while mentally and physically challenging players to reach their peak performance. He has trained and developed some of the state’s best middle school and high school players. He also has a long list of College, Overseas, WNBA and NBA players he has trained and developed over the years. Matt is also the director/founder of the Elevation Flyers. In the past 5 years they have become one of the states top developmental/competitive boys basketball clubs.
Matt is a Colorado native. He played his prep basketball at Douglas County High School, where he was a 2 time all-state selection and 3 time all conference player, earning conference player of the year his senior year. Matt was heavily recruited out of high school, receiving 7 Division I offers. He continued his career at Colorado State University where he started all 4 years under Coach Stew Morrill. While at CSU, Matt climbed his way into the record books by being the only Rams player in school history to record over 800 points, 700 rebounds and 300 assists. Matt is still in the top 5 in CSU history in rebounds(768) and assists(368). After completing his college career, and receiving his BA in Liberal Arts, he continued his career overseas in New Zealand. While playing in New Zealand, Matt averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds a game, helping his team to a NZBL title.
Matt currently resides in Englewood, CO with his wife(Annette) and 3 children(Bodhi, Tag and Maya). In his spare time he enjoys coaching his children’s sports teams, mountain biking and spending time with his family.
